Travel on part of ODOT’s "Journey Through Time Scenic Byway". We will travel to Sherman County Historical Museum in Moro (120 miles/about 2 ½ hours) with a brief stop in Shaniko, a semi-ghost town that was once the “Wool Capital of the World”. The town has historic buildings and classic/antique cars and farm equipment spread throughout the town. The hotel has been refurbished and is open for viewing.

Bring a lunch or we can stop at the grocery store in Grass Valley to buy lunch on the way. If you decide to buy your lunch in Grass Valley, it would be best to order ahead to avoid a wait since everything is made to order. We will drive to Moro and have lunch in the park next to the museum.

Sherman County Historical Museum is an award-winning museum telling the stories of rural living from the times of wagon trains to the present. ASCO will pay the entry fee for participants. At 1:00, Kristen Stuart, the director, will give us a brief overview to start your tour of the museum. Explore the museum on your own and leave when you want. Be sure to talk with the volunteers who are a wealth of knowledge. Driving back, you can have a longer stop in Shaniko or other historical sites. Another option is to spend a few days (on your own) in the Columbia Gorge area exploring Maryhill Museum, wineries, or fruit stands along the Hood River Fruit Loop.

Meet at the Bend Lowe's parking lot near the coffee drive-through at 8:15. Leave at 8:30.

Limited to 18 participants.
